lecture 11 - Women at the cross: three marys and salome

John tells us that "Mary of Clopas" was at the Cross.  Who was she?  And who was Clopas?  The one on the way to Emmaus?  What became of them?  Husband and wife missionaries?

All four Gospels say Mary Magdalene was there, the one from whom Jesus cast out seven demons.  Was she also the "sinner woman" who washed Jesus' feet?  Probably not, despite a long tradition and lots of art depicting her that way.  But she bears the title, "The Apostle of Apostles," deservedly.


And Mary, the Mother of James and Joses, was there.  What do we know about her (and her sons)?  And Salome?  Just names lost to history?  If so, why?
