LECTURE 21 - SCRIBES: LAWYERS AT CALVARY (PART 2)

Scribes were the scholars of the Torah.  They preserved the Law, they studied the Law, they taught the Law, they revered the Law.  They were found throughout Palestine.  Those in Jerusalem were the best of the best.  They were authorities; they knew their authorities.  Who would dare question them?  

What they did was very much like what lawyers do today. Knowing what they did, and how they were regarded, tells us much of what they were like when Jesus encountered them.  And why we might have predicted conflict resulting in death.
